Jumper Three: Potions
Matt Thorson // 01:42Jumper Three: Potions In my last blog entry, I hinted at potions which will change Ogmo's attributes. Some of you may remember the
ancient demo of
J3 which showed off a few of these power-ups. Since then I have overhauled the engine, graphics and storyline, but the potion concept remains.
To use a potion, you just have to grab it.
The black potion will change you from
Prototype Ogmo to
Dark Ogmo.
Dark Ogmo is only slightly different from
Prototype Ogmo. The only change is that he cannot double jump - so I suppose the black potion is a replacement for the black stars from
Jumper 2 and
Jumper: Redux.
I'm sure you can imagine the possibilities for the other colors, such as
Flip Ogmo:
There are many different transformations Ogmo can make, and they are slowly revealed as you progress through the game. I've tried to include transformations which add new challenges to the Jumper formula and combine well with my style of level design. It isn't uncommon in the more difficult stages to change forms multiple times (and often without touching the ground).
(Oh, and there might be some kind of bonus mode where you can play around with all the potions you've found so far. But I'm not going to talk about that just yet!)
More info to come as the game continues to take shape!
Re: Jumper Three: Potions
Sulsay // 14:50Finally, some information about the potions! =)
I can see that you weren't joking when you said you'd go back to retro-style with Jumper 3, it definately shows in this screenshots you've given us. I like the different looks of Ogmo in this screenshots. Especially Dark Ogmo's eyes remind me of the "abomination" Ogmo was introduced as in Jumper 1.
A bad thing about these graphics might be the fact that it's hard to distinguish a potion from the background. At least, I didn't notice the potion in the first screenshot until I compared it with the the second, in which Ogmo suddenly changed appearace. Maybe it's a good idea to somehow animate the potions (like the stars J2). Then again, they might already be, it just doesn't show in the screenshot, obviously.
I really like where this is going. I can see lots of challenging designs and even plenty of puzzles coming, I can't wait to get my hands on some sort of demo!
Keep it up!

Zekobah // 16:29This is going to be so awesome.
Really.
Re: Jumper Three: Potions
Cook // 06:56Looks amazing. Hopefully your rethinking your objection to not including a level editor though?
Re: Jumper Three: Potions
JW // 12:48Is that all potions we get to see? :(
aw.
Still awesome.
Re: Jumper Three: Potions
Bowser // 13:00It's great but... isn't everything too green? Maybe change the background to another color...
I like the potion sprites and the overall pixelness :D
The potions will present many interesting challenges...
Re: Jumper Three: Potions
retrogamer // 14:19Sulsay, the potions are animated. Well, maybe not, but they are throwing off particles. Look at the very first screeny. Not the screeny that you were talking about, but the one with the six potions.
Re: Jumper Three: Potions
Trotim // 22:11Will you use .mod music?
Re: Jumper Three: Potions
Bowser // 22:18Yes, I think some chip tunes will fit perfectly!
Re: Jumper Three: Potions
JakeX // 05:09Hahah, neat. Do you still have that clever little effect where the transformation kind of 'wipes' across Ogmo?
