Ups, Downs and Ups Joewoof // 17:31
Last week was a frantic race to finish the team project. This week promises to be even more hectic. We spent about 3 hours today working together on the game, from 7pm to 10pm. Earlier in the morning, I finally finished all the "composite" sprites needed in the game. The rest I need to do includes "presentational material", such as the loading image, online promotional poster, and so on. I've been contacting a colleague who's going to help me with the distribution of the game. There's a good chance that we'll sell this at a comic convention, in the guise of a "doujin-soft" (even though it isn't, meheheh). If we can get a small booth, I'll have to start working on a full-blown vertical banner. Oh, and the new Sapphire Blood Studio logo isn't done yet! Yargh!

The music artist working for us promises to have his pieces ready in a couple of days. I sure hope that he keeps his word.

Unfortunately, today was horrible. Maybe it was the time limitation of 3 hours, but we still accomplished far less than we've planned for today. Well... this time, we finished nothing, save for some extensive testing that still needs to be repeated due to a change in the effectiveness of a certain object. We also spent far too much time trying to get a new graphical effect to work correctly. It replaced an effect that was cool, but gobbled up a great load of memory.

Afterwards, Wit (sound guy) talked to me about how excited he feels about the project so far, especially since it's almost done. In spite of my dread about having to delay the project a month and a half due to impending midterm exams, his optimism is unfazed. He went on about how he'd be interested in joining my professional indie team if I ever start one, even though I told him that it's difficult to do so in a developing country where piracy is rampant. He's also thinking of looking for a female programmer who can add a fresh new perspective for the team. Not a bad idea, but it's not easy, considering that looking for additonal male programmers is hard enough.

Remember what I said about having teammates who are even MORE passionate than you at times? There are bound to be days of disappointment, where you don't seem to be making any progress. I am really grateful to work with such great teammates, who can help you along in such times. Companions are vital for epic adventures. ;D

so, you mention that last week was a race to finish - but then you go on about how this week you are still creating assets.  so, is it safe to assume that you didn't finish last week?  or, am i overlooking something?
did you have some deadline to meet last week, or was it just an internal goal that your team had set for themselves?

wow, i didn't realize that the team was going to be finishing up so soon.  seems like just a few days ago you kicked off talk of this project (wait, it was just a few days ago).  pretty impressive.  how long have the team been working on it altogether?  what is the scope of this project?  is it more of a small-scale action game, or something of a more "grand" scope?

sorry for so many questions - i'm just deeply interested in the goings on.  not to mention extremely excited.

All this hype is going to backfire... and I took care in not saying anything about the game. Why, oh why? T_T

Lots of questions there, CosMind. I'm a mere kitten; I'm not worthy!

Well, we tried, but even though we're working on this baby whenever we're not studying, eating or sleeping (or in the hospital), we're still only at 80% of our ideal progression rate (during our workshop sessions). We planned to finish everything last Friday, but it wasn't enough.

There isn't a set deadline, since we're working independently. However, the threat of having to delay this project for a full month and a half is very real. Past experience taught us that, once the midterms arrive, we must divert our attention to our studies. Considering that some courses have two midterms before the finals, once the midterms begin, it often means constant studying until the end of the term.

We started this project back in September and worked on it until mid-October. At that point, we decided to put it on hold and concentrate on our studies. Last trimester was exceptionally difficult for all of us, academically. We started on this game again this month, which means that, in total, we've spent 2 and a half months on it.

As the amount of time invested implies, this is a small-scale project.

All this hype is going to backfire...

say, no worries about something like that.  i'm not reading it as hype in the least.  i'm reading it as excitement and passion for your team's creation.

i'm just a curious dude that likes to ask lots of questions in hopes of learning, learning, learning.

thanks a ton for looping me in :D

i'm rooting for your team all the way.  seriously, i have my pom-poms in hand right now.
