Will we ever return to Sector 9? Pug Fugly // 14:46
Someday yes.

Hopefully someday soon.

I've just got myself back into R2S9 development mode.  Took be about half an hour to work out what the hell I'd been doing.  I then spent a short time wishing I could simply cut and paste The Pyramid's menu system (but not the garish graphics) into it.... R2S9's menu system is pretty poor - it works nicely but it's badly programmed.  Still, with only a few odds and ends left to do on the menu, I'll have to lump it.

So, I finished off Doomball mode last night.  Doomball is the brainchild of that wacky Darthlupi, and is a mini game that is both fun and frustrating in equal measure!

I'm currently tuning the difficulty on the other modes, and I think I need to go back to the main game bosses and tune them down a bit.  I'm not a big fan of bosses in games, certainly not hard ones.  I'm of half a mind to make the bosses quite easy so that you can actually enjoy them.  After all, there are 25 levels (5 of which are bosses) and I would like people to be able to finish it eventually!

Saying that, people achieved scores on Ambush in Sector 9 that I never even thought possible (even though some of those posted on my site are clearly hacks!).  So it's tricky.  I want it to be a game that's difficult, but the kind of game that the more you play, the better your skills get, the further you progress.

The other main area of difficulty for me is music.  I like writing music but pretty much everything I've tried to write for R2S9 so far has been guff.  The only half way decent piece is a remix of the original Ambush theme for the Ambush in Sector 9 remake / minigame.

I also have to test all the ships' special weapons against all 5 bosses.  15 ships x 5 bosses = 75 tests!  The annoying thing is I did half of those months ago, but lost my documentation so I'm not sure what are done and what aren't.

Also, Wolverine suggested that the on line highscore charts should show a little picture of the actual ship that the score was achieved with.  A nice little idea and something I'll put in.  Will certainly be interesting to see which ships people prefer.

The upshot of all of this is that it is now my current project, and I don't forsee anything else in the near future taking focus from it.

In other news, the Retro Remakes 2006 results are out December 1st.  My fingers are crossed for that one... so far I've had a 5th and a 1st place in Retro Remakes competitions, so another decent placing will be very pleasing.  1st would be just great of course....

Yay.  Still looking forward to this.  More so than any other game indie or commercial including anything for the new consoles.

Oh yeah will it have joypad control (redefinable) or will I have to use the Ambush config on JoyToKey I did?  I just really like using the shoulder buttons to rotate the ship.

Yeah I'll have joypad control.  The slight difficulty with that is many of the games have different control set ups so I'm not quite sure how I'll handle that... could be tricky.

I may just get lazy and make it compatible with a Dual Shock 2.... ;D
