I do it all the time. Ginger tea works wonders. Herbs > Western meds.

Herbs > Western meds.

Want to make that general? :P

Chewing on ginger candy also works wonders.

Herbs > Western meds.

On the other hand:

folklore < science and logic.

Pfft. Logic. Science is cool, I'm cool with science. But logic just bites :P People rely on logic, thinking that it's some indestructible force... then I verbally and ethically trample them, and they're left bewildered.

Then, to be honest, they're doing something wrong in the first place. There's not really a way 'around' logic, as long as it's soundly constructed. Confusing people out of being able to use it is a reflection on them - nothing else. :P

Do you mainly deal with mentally weak people?

Is this a shot at my own intelligence? I don't believe myself to be the wisest of all people, but I'd credit myself to be able to out-argue those who aren't JUST "mentally weak", thank you. >:(

S/he who argues with logic alone is trying to bake a cake with just flour, if you ask me. And if you don't believe me, just say it plain and simple. You're trying to convince Buddha that Nirvana doesn't exist, otherwise.

EDIT: I'll add to this, with a brief example:

If there was a road that split two ways, and one road lead to melancholy + peace, while the other road lead to happiness + disarray. Which way would be the logical way to go?

That's a very loose idea of what I'm getting at. If two people got into an argument over which way to go, logic alone couldn't settle it. Sure, you'd have to come to a logical decision based on each person's desires, perhaps, but who decides whether its logical or not to even make a decision based on one's desires?

Rival conceptions of logic

Logic arose from a concern with correctness of argumentation. The conception of logic as the study of argument is historically fundamental, and was how the founders of distinct traditions of logic, namely Plato and Aristotle, conceived of logic. Modern logicians usually wish to ensure that logic studies just those arguments that arise from appropriately general forms of inference; so for example the Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy says of logic that it "does not, however, cover good reasoning as a whole. That is the job of the theory of rationality. Rather it deals with inferences whose validity can be traced back to the formal features of the representations that are involved in that inference, be they linguistic, mental, or other representations" (Hofweber 2004).

By contrast Immanuel Kant introduced an alternative idea as to what logic is. He argued that logic should be conceived as the science of judgment, an idea taken up in Gottlob Frege's logical and philosophical work, where thought (German: Gedanke) is substituted for judgement (German: Urteil). On this conception, the valid inferences of logic follow from the structural features of judgements or thoughts.

And personally, I love folklore. Since folklore has infinite possibilities just as science does, and will continue to grow for just as long as we continue to discover (science), I think it is EQUAL TO. Either way, it all depends on where one's interest lies.

:D

:P Man, how I can send a conversation astray. :D Tangents are always too much fun to avoid, to be honest though.
