The return to WLM Chronic // 19:20
Sometime before my old computer crapped out on me i made the leap from MSN 7.x to 8.x. I tried this in the past and it never turned out so good... it wasn't much different this time.

After being prompted each week by MSN that there is an upgrade and getting more annoyed with it each time as there is no "Stop bugging the crap out of me" option, I decided it was time to upgrade. Well, there were other reasons too.. but i really can't remember them.

Anyway.. same old stuff happened, i lost all custom emotes, backgrounds, etc, but having learned from past experiences i kept a copy off the emotes i made. Well thats what i thought anyway, i kinda forgot to make copies of ones i added which friends sent me so i had to ask people i remember getting them from to start spamming emotes.

Well, it turns out that WLM has some crap-tastic bug that claimed i already had used the image for another emote. Yeah.. good going WLM, if i already was using the image, why can't i see it?! any emote i tried to add, even my own, would make this claim. A little later, for whatever reason i had to restart my computer, to my surprise when i logged in to WLM, all the emotes i was trying to add earlier had appeared. So let me get this right.. it can remember that i was using an image for an emote, but it can't remember to display it in the emotes list?

I (L) WLM.

One nice thing about WLM however is that once i moved to my new PC, i simply just had copy over one folder and everything was back as it was.

Well.. i guess this is the end of WLM problems, sometimes things don't always go right with new versions of things.

Until next time.

I got annoyed at the stupid notice and upgraded as well. Fortunately I don't use MSN too much so I don't have custom emotes; WLM doesn't seem that different anyway.

Why are you using Windows Messenger? I got fed up with the bloatware ICQ and MSN clients and just got Miranda.

I used miranda a while back but had a lot trouble with file transfers. Exept for that, I liked it. Pretty clean and you don't have to patch away bs.

The use of file transfers is the only reason I still use Windows Messenger. Anybody got a way around this, then I'd gladly change :P

The barrage of upgrade prompts made me upgrade too.

So, what, I'm the only one here that didn't hold out on updating MSN for whatever reason?

Think WLM/MSN is the only chat client that has never given me any major trouble.  Especially using the Mess patch to take away the ads and other annoying crap.  I like the new look of the 8.5 build too.  Gaim, Miranda and Trillian all caused me major headaches.

You don't have to use MSN/WLM to use the MSN protocol. There are numerous free software and open-source programs such as Pidgin that deal with all kinds of chat protocols and have no self-promotions.

Like Gaim, Miranda, and Trillian, already mentioned by Carn. They can be real buggy, though.

My biggest problem with WLM is having different window for every chat. Is there a way to change this that I haven't discovered, because it's annoying.
