Eo Website suggestions Simon Donkers // 14:45
Recently in a lengthy ceremony I have been granted control over the monkeys that run the Eo GDC website.

: Did you know
Everytime you look at this page - one of the Eo monkeys manually writes up the refresh in HTML. Chimpy doesn't seem to enjoy it though.

In the coming months I'd like to work on the site and fix some bugs and include some suggestions. What I like to hear from you is what has always annoyed you about the Eo website and what you would like to see added.
I'm looking forward to all your replies.

PS: no we will not add a signup form.

Hey, that's great to hear! I'll probably have a few minor suggestions once I give the site a little run-thru here. Good to have the monkeys back on leashes. :)

Well I have something...

I think Internet Explorer doesn't present PNG images right or something. The background image of the site doesn't fade over gradually into the background color, but instead fades to a dark purple, and then there's suddenly a lighter purple as background color. Why not use gifs? Or maybe even bitmap?

Why not use a browser that supports png correctly? or even web standards? oh, and bmp should be banned from being used for website graphics (and screen shots).

Well it seems silly to cater to a browser that doesn't support actual standards, but there's just so many people who use it, it's a bad idea not to.

The only thing that really botters me is the maximum length comments can have for non-Eohens. And I quote: "Messages must be shorter then 350 characters. Your [original] message is: 627 characters long. Please shorten your message!"

Also, I find the site's footer somewhat overwhelming. I'll use any browser I want to use, at any resolution (1024x768 displays it fine, there is no reason to exclude it) and with the anti-aliasing my eyes prefer. These recommendations might be better off in the FAQs. By the way, we're in 2007.

Quimp:

I don't think the message was intended to say exclude 1024x768 as I know Hyun ain't stupid enough to suggest excluding what I think is the most widely used resolution for desktop stuff.  I think he meant 1024x768 and above.

Thanks for all the replies. So far my experiment whether shorter posts would lead to more quality replies and the relation with the position still shows Eo as winner. 64 Digits has 2 more replies so far but has slightly less bug reports, zero to be exact.

@Ghostkeeper, I'll look into IE compatibility. While I agree with Chronic I tend to agree with FredFredrickson as well.

@Quimp, as soon as I figure out why that is I'll try to remove that post length. I'll look at the footer as well.

Some updates:
The RSS feed again works. Although I'm not done with it yet.
The page selection buttons on the examples page now work.
The previous button with screenshots now returns you to the previous screenshot rather then the first.

Enjoy.

Re: Eo's useless subject field Blijbol // 18:21
In playprofile.php, I always found the large width of the summary table annoying. Also, a larger download button would be nice. Maybe you could change that.

Anyways, this spam blocking thing seems to work well.
